Job Description
MMIC ENGINEER (Durham, NC., Research Triangle Park area - with Relocation)
You will play a vital role in our vision. Our vision is to become the pre-eminent and worldwide leader of high performance RF power devices based on GaN technology. We support and develop a team of employees whose skills, commitment and values exemplify the highest quality of performance to the company, our customers, co-workers and shareholders.
SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the design, development and characterization of GaN RF power transistor products and multifunctional MMICs, such as broadband power amplifiers, switch products, and low noise amplifiers. Frequencies range from 0.1MHz to 20GHz.
Responsibilities include translating product specifications into a MMIC-based design using RF/microwave simulation and design tools, load pull measurements, s-parameter measurements, and current-voltage relationships. Engineers are responsible for generating baseline layout representation of all designs as well as all required drawings and artwork for supporting the manufacture and assembly of hardware needed for fixturing and testing.
REQUIREMENTS:
Engineers will hold a minimum of an MS degree in electrical engineering (PhD preferred), physics or related technical field and have applicable direct experience with RF transistors.
A minimum of 5 years experience with high power RF technologies such as LDMOS, GaN, or GaAs is a plus as well as power amplifier design experience.
Proficiency with microwave design tools and artwork generators such as Agilent ADS, Microwave Office, AutoCAD, Sonnet and Momentum.
A minimum of 5 years hands-on experience with board level assembly, tuning, bypassing network design, and optimization of matching networks.
Experience designing PAs or high power impedance matching networks.
Familiarity with operation and calibration of RF test equipment such as load-pull setups, network analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power meters, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ability to translate product requirements into a realizable design using RF design and measurement tools (e.g. ADS, Load Pull, etc.) and conversely, have ability to generate product requirements documents from marketing requirements documents
Thorough understanding of high power RF transistor and MMIC design techniques, linearity tradeoffs, design optimization and sensitivity analysis
Understanding of internal matching circuit design and tradeoffs.
Understanding of circuit instability and strategies to resolve them. This includes both even and odd modes of operation and related oscillation suppression.
Have thorough understanding of high power packages as well as generate specifications for packaging high power GaN products
Characterize MMIC performance vs. design specs using S-parameter and load-pull data
Devise Datasheet characterization plan and execute it
Ability to take a product from design phase in to production
Strong problem solving skills are essential
Ability to work within a multifunctional team for product development and process improvements
