Job Description
Position Title: Senior IT Technical Specialist
Reports To: IT Director of Enterprise Architecture and Standards
Department: Enterprise Architecture and Standards
Basic Functions:
Produces complete, clear documentation.
Delivers on time.
Self-starter, technical leader with superb collaboration skills.
Listens to, values and incorporates where appropriate, recommendations from others.
Provides guidance and support for technical development managers and their teams.
Experienced developing state of the art solutions, hands-on research, evaluation, and due diligence of technical solutions.
Communicates clearly to all stakeholders, from high-level business to detailed technical.
Works with internal and external technology providers to ensure maximum leverage of their solutions.
Principal Functions:
Define key enterprise solution components and ensure they are managed, either by heading that activity or by establishing and supporting governance for applications, services and infrastructure.
Develop road maps describing the evolution of all enterprise solution portfolios from current state to future state.
Work closely with the enterprise program management office (PMO) to ensure alignment of plans (including migration plans and road maps) with what is being delivered (projects).
Ensure that project management or solution delivery life cycle efforts and project technical architects specifically leverage all aspects of enterprise solution architecture (ESA) separately by EA viewpoint (business, information and technology) and via guidance at the EA level across those viewpoints.
Analyze enterprise business context (trends and business strategy), as well as change requirements in other EA viewpoints, to derive the ESA change requirements and guide solution decisions for the enterprise.
Define principles to guide solution decisions for the enterprise.
Define models, including solution patterns, to guide solution decisions for the enterprise.
Assist with governance activities associated with ensuring ESA and, thus, EA compliance.
Consult with application or infrastructure development projects to harmonize systems or infrastructure with the ESA, and identify when it is necessary to modify the solution architecture to accommodate project needs.
Ensure that all solution architecture design and analysis work (as specific solutions are created or upgraded in projects by project architects or solution architects) is documented in a structured fashion matching the EA framework and is stored in a common place.
Understand and advocate the principles of business and IT strategies, as well as of EA development and service delivery. Be prepared to sell the EA process (overall, not just for ESA), its outcome and ongoing results, and to lead the communication, marketing or educational activities needed to ensure ESA success and use.
Coordinate with enterprise business, information and technology architects.
Required Skills and Experience:
Technical Acumen Strong domain knowledge in application design and development, working knowledge of current IT and systems technologies and standards.
Business Acumen Ability to command the respect of not only IT peers, but also business management. Strong understanding of business requirements and processes as they relate to IT enterprise architecture.
Spring Framework experience is required.
General Management/Leadership Recognized as a leader able to inspire others through conviction, vision and the ability to formulate and articulate direction in the area of application architectures.
Ability to forge single-purpose commitment from others with disparate objectives.
Interpersonal Relations Sells approaches through the power of ideas rather than mandates.
Desired Skills and Experience:
Application Design, Development, and Testing - Software Life Cycle Management techniques and Tools for managing requirements, processes, and object versioning.
Integrated Development Environments such as Websphere Studio, Rational Application Developer, or Visual Studio Application Design Tools preferably based upon UML and ECLIPSE standards.
Strong working knowledge of modern software development languages such as J2EE or .NET technologies.
Ability to work with business people in a collaborative application design and development environment.
Understanding of presentation tools (Visio, PowerPoint).
Strong, working verbal and written business and technical communication skills.
Good understanding of Infrastructure Architecture and Operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
BS degree in Computer Science or related discipline
10+ years of overall IT experience
Minimum of 5 years designing complex, integrated application solutions.
Knowledge of infrastructure components, middleware and SOA
